Big Breakfast Taken
By Storm
A phone call late on Good Friday 13th April from
the office of the Channel 4 early morning TV programme, The Big
Breakfast, asking for a group of Cheerleaders for a live broadcast
from Brighton on Bank Holiday Monday 16th and the organisational
skills of the Southern Knights were pushed to their
limits.
By the end of Friday all members that could be
contacted had been and at 2pm on Saturday 14th a mass uniform fitting
took place and by 3pm we had at least 25 girls ready for action.
7am on a very cold Monday morning and a lot of
bleary eyed people arrived in Woodingdean to be met by the outside
broadcast producer wearing a white rabbit suite (don't ask!!) and the
presenter, Mike 'Squeaky' McClean, advising us that at 7.20am we would
become the Brighton branch of the 'Squeaketes' (once again, don't
ask!!!!) supporting the first Annual Squeaky Easter Bonnet Parade.
By 9am the Big Breakfast had ended and the
outside broadcast had featured in the programme on 4 different
occasions. Not only had we supplied the colour and razzmatazz
but also most of the 'rent a crowd' and 8 out of the 11 participants
in the Easter Bonnet Contest, including the winner.
A huge thanks to everyone who put themselves out
and broke into their Easter break to show that, once again, the
Knights can provide a quality product with minimal notice.
Plus, although it was extremely cold, it was a great laugh and
excellent experience for the members.
