Stoke Contest Report
The 2003 season got off to a flying start for
both the Juniors and Seniors at the WGUK contest held in Stoke On
Trent on Saturday 11th January.
First up were the Junior Guard. The 13
members, dressed in the bright multi-coloured costumes against a
backdrop of their yellow and green floor, made the whole arena light
up as they performed to the upbeat Smashmouth number - Walking On The
Sun. There were 8 other units competing in the Junior Class and
competition looked fierce but nothing seemed to stop the 11 girls and
2 boys as they were awarded joint 1st Place. Still a long way to
go before the end of the season but what a brilliant way to start.
The Senior Guard were 4th on out of the 7 Open
Class units and were wearing their new two tone blue costumes for the
first time (as there weren't quite ready for the Preview a week
earlier). The 9 girls had worked hard over the previous few
weeks to put finishing touches to the show ready to start the season
and were a class act performing their "Spring" production on
a green/yellow painted "grass effect" flooring. The
result today of 3rd Place was pleasing as there is still plenty to add
(and finish) in the show and sets the Guard up for an exciting season.
Two weeks until the Knights sponsored show at
Burgess Hill were the Juniors will see whether there scores will
promote them up to A Class, the Seniors can see of the planned
enhancements will bring them closer to the top and the Rugrats get
there first contest experience for 2003.
