Burgess Hill Contest Report

After a great start for the Juniors and Seniors at Stoke two weeks earlier all three of our Guards were in competition at the SK sponsored WGUK contest in Burgess Hill on Sunday 26th January.

The Rugrats were the first of the SK units to perform whose 12 members, dressed in their striking black and white costumes, have continued to build on their experiences from last year together with integrating all the new members.   Performing to the Cyndi Lauper tune Time After Time and with a large clock face flooring, the Ruggies put on an excellent show and were awarded 3rd Place (out of 4) only missing 2nd by 1 point.

Next up were the Junior Guard.  Up against new competition from two weeks ago plus all three of their nearest rivals the 13 members had improved their Walking On the Sun show but so had the others and whilst only coming in 4th (out of 8) they were only .02 away from 2nd place and nearly 10 points ahead of the 5th placed unit.  The top of this years Junior Class really is stretching ahead and, with the new Promotion System just about to kick in, the Juniors are one of the movers and shakers at this level within WGUK.

Now up to 10 members, the Senior Guard were really spurred on by "home town" crowd and brought the house down with a massively improved performance from 2 weeks earlier.  Ending their show with a standing ovation from the audience their score increased by over 11 points putting them in 2nd Place on the day only 1½ points behind the winners and 16 points ahead of 3rd!!  With plenty more to add (and clean) the girls could not contain their excitement at such a good show so early in the season.

Another two weeks until the next contest being held in Dagenham, Essex which all three Guards are attending, and plenty of work taking place in between, 2003 is looking like another good year for SK.

Quick thanks to all the supporters and helpers who assisted in running this event and making it another successfully organised contest for the Southern Knights.
