2008 Winter Season Report

The 2008 Winterguard United Kingdom season has now drawn to close with the Southern Knights having mixed success on the competition arena.

The 15 members of the Rugrats continued their dominance of the WGUK Cadet Class taking their 4th national title in a row which is a magnificent achievement and huge congratulations to Guard Director Krissie Longford and her team and who knows what 2009 will bring!!

The Junior Guard, under the Director of Mel Delves, after a slow start, really came on leaps and bounds in the new year and after a great performance in their Championships made it through to the first WGUK Junior Class Playoff and were awarded the Bronze Medal in 3rd Place.  Well done to all and a special thanks to Mel who is standing down as Director after two years.

After last years success, the A Guard had another superb season against strong opposition in their class and they easily made it through to their A Class Playoffs narrowly missing first place in their morning Championships and holding onto the Silver Medal position in the evening.

With one of the strongest shows we have had, the Open Guard went into their Championships with high hopes of a top spot but came out of their Preliminary round in a disappointing 4th Place.  In only his second year as Director Gavin Woodhead really spurred the 18 girls onto a fabulous performance in the evening but it was not enough to move the judges and we stayed in 4th Place.

So a 1, 2, 3, 4 for our units in 2008 and we now have the privilege of holding the record for most Championship titles (10) of any UK Winterguard organisation.

Each Guard is now embarking on its summer training programme with exciting plans for 2009 already being discussed.
