Decision Made Regarding 1999 Corps

It has been almost 9 years since we saw the demise of the 'old' Open Class Southern Knights following the Corps travels to the DCA Championships in the USA in 1990.

During these years we have been proud to still be able to field a competitive Drum Corps within the DCUK circuit albeit at a much lower level than before. However, every year this task has become harder and harder and after much discussion and following a mailout to over 300 Alumni the Trustees have decided that, for the foreseeable future, the Southern Knights will not field a competitive Drum Corps/Marching Band during the summer months.

This decision does not effect the Winterguard part of the organisation and, if anything, will help in strengthening our commitment to this activity. Winterguard rehearsals will continue to be held during the summer together with recruiting to, hopefully, enable us to field 4 Guards in the year 2000.

The Trustees have been in discussions with another local Drum Corps and we hope to be able to announce full details shortly regarding a 'tie-up', not a merger, between the two organisations.
