15th March 1999 Hornchurch Winterguard Report Following a months break and for the last time before the British Championships, all three Guards were in action at the Hornchurch Winterguard Contest on Sunday 14th March. The Rugrats, now up to 12 members, are continuing to 'learn the Winterguard ropes' and have added a new ending including a Flying Carpet and, unfortunately, also a flying member!! Still showing their inexperience, the Guard were pushed onto 3rd place and are seeded 3rd out of 5 going into their Finals.
The Cadet Guard, now up to 8 members including the two 'incredible' dancing boys! are still holding their own in the Junior Class. A much improved performance shows the work that they have put in over the last month and they were placed 3rd again today but are actually seeded 4th out of 6 for Finals. Having now completed the 'transition' from Somewhere to Tonight the A Class Guard put on an excellent performance which was exceptionally well received by the audience. Beaten into 2nd place by a Guard they beat at Worthing now throws the A Class into, possibly, a 4 horse race and due to the low score at the beginning of the season the Guard go into Finals seeded 5th out of 11. So all to play for next week at the British Colour Guard Championships in Brentwood, Essex and we wish all 3 Guards the best of luck. |
